Company History

1970 saw Jack Street and son-in-law; John Storwick purchase the Kenworth franchise from Canadian Kenworth and thus S & M Kenworth was born. Since that time the business has become a family affair with deep and wide roots in rugged Alberta. Today the company is run by grandsons Jeff & Paul Storwick who operate as joint CEO’s.

Originally the dealership covered all of Southern Alberta with the head office located in Calgary at 5909- 6th Street S. E. Over the years the company has grown with branches in Red Deer, Clairmont, Lethbridge and recently the opening of a parts store in Medicine Hat. Currently, the Lethbridge store is undergoing construction on a new modern facility.

Service is our top priority… customer service and equipment servicing. About 60 percent of the staff is service personnel. The Calgary shop has 35 bays, plus a wash bay; in Red Deer there are 14 bays; Grande Prairie has 14 including a wash bay, and there will be 10 bays in Lethbridge.

1996 saw S & M Kenworth officially change the company name to Greatwest Kenworth Ltd to reflect more of its Alberta heritage. When you walk through the doors of a Great West Kenworth Ltd. dealership you walk into a business that has grown on 40 years of solid family values, commitment to its employees and dedication to the customers that we serve. Great West Kenworth Ltd. prides itself on the many years of experience that our staff have in understanding the Alberta trucking industry from the oilfield, through to the wheat fields, and everywhere in between.

Over the years, the dealership has remained in the forefront, quickly introducing innovations. One of the first truck companies to have a carpeted, indoor showroom. John explains, “We decided to take a leaf from car dealer’s book. We have a first class facility and a first class image. It’s a terrific atmosphere that our customers enjoy. It beats standing in the mud to buy a truck out of a trailer, as is so common in our business.”

According to Paul, the CEO of Sales, “customer service is the guiding philosophy of Great est Kenworth. Attitude is most important and all of our employees have a good attitude. Customer service is a constant and ongoing pursuit. We can’t just sell them a product and then leave them high and dry. We remain in constant contact with our customers and make certain they have no problems.”

All branches, with the exception of the parts store in Medicine Hat, offer parts, service, and truck sales departments to help benefit customers across the entire province, and each relies on the foundation of the Greatwest Kenworth Ltd. business philosophy to be able to utilize our resources we have to make the best decisions possible to benefit our customers.

With the widespread coverage of the province, Greatwest Kenworth Ltd. can hang its hat on being the number one supplier to the oilfield’s trucking needs in Alberta, as well as being able to utilize this experience locally to assist the international oil market.
