HOW THE PROCESS WORKS

  1. If you meet the above requirements then submit your resume to HR
  2. Great West Kenworth will contact you for an interview
  3. If the interview is positive (via telephone or Skype) you are then given information to write an internal knowledge exam (70% pass)
  4. If selected to move forward we will require a valid passport which does not expired within 4 years.
  5. We then apply for an LMO. The Labour Market Opinion (LMO) is a report issued by HRSDC (Human Resources and Skills Development Canada/Service Canada) that outlines the impact that hiring a foreign worker would have on Canada labour market. Employers need to obtain this assessment in order to hire foreign workers. (This can take up to 3 months to received a positive LMO)
  6. During the 3 month waiting period for the LMO we provide you with an Employment Letter and you apply to the  AIT  (Application Here and information on how to complete the application here) proving your qualifications and you receive permission to write the Provincial HET Journeyman Qualification Exam. (Approval can take up to 2 months)
  7. Once we have a positive LMO and a letter from the  AAIT  to write the exam you are able to apply for a work permit.
  8. You then complete the work permit and submit it to CIC (Citizenship & Immigration Canada) for approval. (Application information here. This process depends on your local Canadian Visa Offices)
  9. Once you obtain a work permit you are able to enter Canada
  10. Once in Canada the AAIT will inform you when you will write the exam (can be anywhere from 1 to 6 months from your arrival date)
  11. If you pass, you are able to stay in Canada for the full term of your employment during which you can apply for Permanent Residence if you wish.
  12. If you fail the exam you can retake the exam again (up to 3 times), if you can not pass the exam your work permit becomes void and you are required to leave Canada.
